A group of researchers tells us interesting technology facts from the University of California at Irvine has developed incredibly “tenacious” battery – it will work without loss of capacity to 200,000 recharge cycles (!). Opening, as often happens, was made thanks to a happy coincidence.
Project leader Dr. Mia Le Thai nano battery invented quite by accident – for one of his experiments, she placed a special set of wires in the manganese dioxide and add similar to plexiglass gel electrolyte.
Usually, the nanowires fail after 8000 charge cycles – because of the fragile hull during charging / discharging, they simply break down procedure. But Tai nanowires were not as – after many recharge cycles revealed that they are almost not affected. The researcher believes that the gel “plasticizes the metal oxide in the battery” and as a result makes it a much more viable. conventional laptop battery is designed only for a few hundred charge cycles – and Tai battery will work without loss of capacity of four hundred years!
Mia also found that even simple application of the gel in the existing batteries will prolong their service to be recharged several hundred to several thousand, while the capacity will not be reduced.
