We keep saying on Android Review Center that games for Android Smartphones and mobile devices can be very broadly divided into two kinds. the ultra complicated ones with resource mining, management and strategy and the other kind, the simple arcade and mind games.
We are not saying that one kind is better than the other. Far from it. The simple, straightforward games are just as much fun as the complicated ones and require just as much thought and practice. Of course, a simple arcade game must be good in order to be enjoyable. No surprises there ...
So, let's take a look at a good simple game, shall we? In fact, a game that its iOS version was declared the best new game in the US app store in March. The game is called Don't Don't Don't and despite its name we think its a good one.
The premise of the game is deceptively simple. We are given a bird and a rotating circle with two openings and our task is simple, just fly the bird up into the rotating circle and then fly it out the circle, again using the moving openings in the circle.
Sounds simple, doesn't it? But it's harder than it looks and it keeps getting harder. Controlling the bird is not that simple and requires good hand to eye coordination. Flying it through the gaps in the circle is also a challenge, and the player must think ahead and plan the bird's trajectory carefully or he or she will end up with one dead turkey on their hands.
We believe that Don't Don't Don't has everything a good arcade game needs. A challenge, an ever evolving playing characters (as more types of birds become available as you reach more levels), a leaderboard and simple gameplay that becomes real difficult in a short time. In other words, this game is ideal for those idle moments we have, or just to lay back, put our fingers and mind in gear and plunge right into those circles, hopefully to come out whole on the other side.
FPS Zombies: Call of Zombie by Forthright Entertainment - Android App Featured
The nice thing about Android smartphones and mobile devices is the sheer amount of apps and games of every conceivable type and kind. Even if we limit ourselves to games, we still get hundreds of thousands of games of every type and kind, from complex strategy games to simple arcade and mind games. And of course, there are the FPS's.
First Person Shooters are also a dime a dozen, with all kinds of stories, controls, weapons and enemies. They range from anti terrorist games to science fiction games where the player must shoot aliens or a robot army or evil demons from another dimension. You get the picture.
However, we would like to showcase a FPS we think is quite special, and we'll shortly tell you why. The FPS is called FPS Zombies: Call of Zombie by Forthright Entertainment which have also made two other very interesting games, Defend From the Romans TD and Thundergods Memory Match .
Well, the premise of FPS Zombies: Call of Zombie is quite simple and not uncommon among FPS. In the near future, a zombie plague breaks out and we must head out deep into a labyrinth and find and destroy the source of the plague, employing firearms, sensors of various types and fast honed reflexes. Still, this is not the highlight of the game.
Where the game really shines is the zombies, the plague stricken humans the player must kill in order to win the game. The zombies are BEAUTIFUL! Fully 3D, rendered in loving detail, with different motions and movements for everyone, some having grown to huge size while others devolved into crawling things.
The enemy is what makes a good FPS and the enemies in this game are superb! Shooting realistic, clearly rendered and real gory zombies in glorious 3D is what makes all the fun, and FPS Zombies: Call of Zombie has a lot of fun in it!
Android smartphones and mobile devices (yeah, and even the other kind) are here to make our lives better. The huge amount of apps out there on google play allow us to work better, communicate better, be safer and even save money. But, these android smartphones and mobile devices have another function.
That function is to entertain us, of course. It is not by chance that google play has SO many games. Modern life and the multitude of duties and roles everyone has to perform leave many with just a few minutes here and there to enjoy life, so why not whip our your smartphone and play a quick and enjoyable game?
Well, Mega 8 is a game that fills that bill exactly. Simple to understand and operate, lightning quick setup and launching, and then the game begins and the player must deal with the game itself, going from easy to hard.
What exactly is Mega 8 and why did we choose it for showcasing? Well, like we said the game itself is quite simple. Colored and numbered spheres float across the screen. The player's role is simple but harder than it seems. The player must combine numbered spheres to reach exactly the sum of 8, for example combining 5 and 3.
The game is harder than it seems, because the spheres must be controlled less they collide. They keep floating and the player must adjust their courses, testing his or her spacial orientation skills to the max. In addition, making combo combines (three or four spheres together) AND playing against the time (in the full version) will challenge everyone.
Mega 8 is a simple but fun game, without heavy smartphone requirements and very quick to launch, setup and play though providing plenty of challenge for anyone. The game is ideal for those idle moments everyone has AND can be used with kids, letting them test their spatial coordination skills and math skills, an important combination.

With Android smartphones, mobile devices and even smart watches, the name of the game is convenience and saving up time and effort. It's not that modern people are lazy or inept, it's just that they would rather turn their energies into other venues, more productive and lucrative.
Thus, Google Play represents (almost!) the total sum of human effort invested in finding new ways to cultivate the exciting new technology and tremendous computing power we can get for even a hundred bucks. From apps that make shopping easier and faster, to apps that let us use the smartphone's camera to scan things and the list goes on and on.
Smart watches are a relatively new invention with new benefits and new limitations. While sporing a relatively small (circa two inch screens), nevertheless they already have a wide range of apps AND the native operating system that take advantage of Bluetooth communications to hook to our smartphone and notify us of incoming email etc.
So, with one glance on our smartwatch, we can see if we have new email, or a new SMS, or an event is about to begin, or a WhatsApp message has arrive and we didn't see it or hear the smartphone's notification. But aside from that, the smartwatch has an often neglected but very important functionality of its own. It should tell us what the time is.
This is exactly where Textual Time face aims to do. Textual Timeface has a very interesting idea that deserves merit. We think we need an exact time by the seconds but we usually can manage quite well with a "quarter to seven" time., even the busiest and most active business man.
Textual Timeface shows time by a textual message, with the app adjusting for smartwatch or smartphone use. In any case, it displays any time by text, such as the infamous "quarter to seven." The clock faces themselves can be adjusted and the patters and colors create beautiful results. To sum this up, Textual Timeface is an original app that shows the time by text messages, making our life easier by removing the need to make the translation in our own heads.
Word Path by Venables Games - Android App Featured
Let's talk entertainment, shall we? Android smartphones and android mobile devices can do SO much (as the reviews here on Android Review Center will show you) but entertainment always seems to be a bit lagging behind. Even though there are some GREAT games out there on google play, there seems to be an undercurrent that thinks, 'games are less important'.
Well, we disagree. Strongly, in fact. We know people that walk around with six inch Asus zenphones and six point four inch Sony Xperia Ultra Z monster smartphones just to be able to play better, see the games with larger screens and on a much larger real estate area.
So, why are games important? First of all, they are fun. Even in our industrial and computerized world, we must never forget to have fun. Forgetting that means that the MACHINE has won. In addition, the correct type of games also teach us and hone our various skills, which is just as important.
So let's introduce Word Path, a small game which is nevertheless one we should pay close attention to. The game itself is quite simple, though simple does not mean easy. All the player has to do is find the longest word possible in the matrix of letters presented, racing against the clock and choosing to go with the easy green letters that start a word or living dangerously and trying to find others words.
Word Path as ladders and achievements boards but that is less important than the benefits this game brings. Its specially designed streamlined design and user interface allows the player to concentrate only on the task at hand, perfect for using the five spare minutes we have to play, have fun and hone our linguistic skills, which is always important.
But we see other uses, mainly concerning kids. Think about it. Just give your kids the game, and tell them that to watch their TV show they have to achieve a certain rank on the game. Linguistic skill advancement and education through playing at the same time. Perfect. In conclusion, Word Path is an unorthodox word finding game with some real potential.
Let's face it, people. We humans are social creatures and social interaction is one of the most important things for us. The nighttime scene is the pinnacle of social interactions for a growing number of people, teens and older. Android smartphones and mobile devices are slowly starting to be able to support our nighttime interactions.
We are introducing Ravr - Social Raving 24/7, a new app that has everything anyone interested and indeed living the nightlife scene needs. This app presents all the information needed to liven up the nighttime raving activities of anyone with any interests, even at daytime.

Crazy Money Button by Michael Asaraf - Android App Featured
It will come as no great surprise that we love Android smartphones and mobile devices. We think it's self explanatory but we do feel obliged to point out that the sheer functionality of these devices, being mobile offices, mobile entertainment offices, mobile communications centers and mobile security centers is at the heart of things.
In addition, we love following select studios and indie developers around and seeing what they are after. Even if one app or a game of a studio is a hit, it is no indication others will, but if an app or a game is good and of good quality, it IS a strong indication all of the other apps will be.
So, we will now bring another app by indi devloper Michael Asaraf whose game Next Business Tycoon we reviewed and enjoyed here. This time, we would like to present another game, called Crazy Money Button. What is interesting to note is that although Next Business Tycoon is a hugely complex and interesting strategy game, Crazy Money Button is a lightning quick casual game.
So, what is Crazy Money Button all about? The game is quite simple and requires faith in yourself and a certain amount of luck. The player gets a button and all he or she has to do is press it, receiving a number as a result. Wining is simplicity itself, all you have to do is hit a round number, the rounder the better.
The game has a money counter which is shared among players and a global ranking ladder so everyone can see how well (or bad ...) he or she did. In addition, the game also sports challenges which are a challenge in themselves not to just achieve but achieve faster than anyone else! Last but not least, real prizes will be handed out to the winners!
There is a place for heavy, complicated games and there is a place for quick casual games that raise your adrenalin level and let you play for a few minutes at a time, whenever you have a little free time. Crazy Money Button is original, well made and most important of all, fun to play.

However, in this article we would like to focus on something that we have been neglecting, and have little doubt almost everyone else has been neglecting.

A great app with a great idea that not only will make YOU stay in shape, but will also motivate your friends and family. Do you see know why we love it?
Paper Aircraft by Cloud Bunny - Android App Featured
We on Android Review Center have quite a tough job. We are dedicated to finding and presenting the best apps on every subject, from entertainment to communications to security and even some mobile office app. Our job is tough because google play has more than a million apps, making finding the good ones quite difficult.
However, now and then we stumble upon a real gem, an app that really shines, if it is because of its beauty, functionality or other traits. In the case of Paper Aircraft, it was all of the above and more. Read on to find out why ...
First of all, let's see what Paper Aircraft by Cloud Bunny does. The app is a repository for aircraft paper models, and not just any paper models but those without cutting the paper, just folding (which is a GIANT plus for anyone who ever tried to make an aircraft model). The app presents a selection of models and the user just needs to select one to receive folding instructions.
So, why did we love the app? First of all, the instructions for making the paper aircraft models are simple, detailed, colorful and self explanatory. Even people with two left hands can understand what they need to do and how to do it. Even some of our own staff here managed to make some very impressive aircraft that flew flawlessly.
Now, the models themselves are varied, beautiful and very practical. We spent some time making quite a few of the available models and the results were great airplanes that flew and glided perfectly! The variation in the models was also jaw dropping as the app contains models from spaceship to different kinds of gliders to other models with specific aerodynamic properties.
The simple fact is that EVERYONE loves paper aircraft, making and flying them. We're not quite sure why but it's a given. Perhaps is has something to do with our childhood ... Of course, kids loved the the app, making the aircraft themselves or just flying the planes if they were little. In any case, it was great exercise for the kids and some well received rest for the parents. To sum things up, Paper Aircraft is a must on anyone's mobile device, for making office life a little more bearable or making the kids play without destroying anything. With a simple and functional interface, a huge selection of models (You can pay a few measly dollars to get EVEN MORE models), this app has become our instant favorite.

Let's face it, people. Although there are a LOT of uses for android smartphones and mobile devices with a huge number of apps that will do almost anything, the thing we use the most and the thing that runs most of the time is our homescreen watch widget, if we have any. Whenever we open an app, close an app, unlock our phone or lock it yet again, we always go through our homescreen.
Besides, the homescreen watch widget should be something that will help us do whatever task we need to do with our smartphone as quickly and as comfortably as possible. Since it is already taking up quite a lot of real estate on our smartphone's homescreen, it should be useful to run things and not only show us information.
But there are a LOT of watch widgets for Android smartphones, what should we choose for our our smartphone? Well, we chose Digital Clock Widget by Super Droid Studio whose apps we've already covered in depth on Android Review Center before. Let's take a quick look and see why this app is one of the favorite ones with our reviewers.
First of all, design and beauty. Say what you will but a widget that is displayed so prominently on the smartphone's or mobile's homescreen should be eye pleasing and Digital Clock Widget has fifteen designs, all beautifully made. There's the bomb clock (our favorite!), the ship window, the old style digital clock design and many more. All lovely!

All and any apps can be configured to be launched straight from the widget, making operating the tons of apps and utilities on our mobile device so much easier and faster. It is a much more natural way to handle the smartphone. Try it and you'll see what we mean.
In addition, the widget has some smart setup options, which are both very useful and simple to use, from setting up the smart notification bar with any apps we want to selecting the exact way we want our watch to appear, with time, date and appearance settings. You cannot go wrong with this app, as it has both functionality and appearance and it really has the potential of transforming your smartphone's user experience.
